Contributor Scott Lowe gave us this perfect recording of Dick Bartley’s “Classic Countdown” on CBS-FM. One of the really cool features of this is the fact that Bartley did this show for CBS-FM, and it’s not some syndicated show that he did generically. But, Dick Bartley is… himself. He comes across professional, if not just factual.
This countdown was from this particular week (Valentine’s Day Weekend) in 1977. Your webmaster scop Listeners to Classic Hits stations today will be very familiar with most of the songs heard on this countdown, but one thing is worth noting. There are some songs which charted high in 1977, which get almost NO radio airplay today. Programmers and Consultants will say that's because the songs don't 'test' well. One has to wonder just how many people get asked to participate in a music test. I know of absolutely NOBODY in or out of radio who has ever participated in a test, so how do they really figure out what songs people like or dislike? Maybe the so called experts 'lie'? Nah.
